Wing Lake News 11/22/2024

Hello Wing Lake Families,

My name is Susan Simms, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the Supervisor of Wing Lake Developmental Center.   Building strong relationships with families is a top priority for me. I believe that by working together, we can create a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters growth and success for our students. My goal is to be a resource for you, ensuring you feel supported and informed throughout your child’s educational journey.

Above you see me with my family.  We recently traveled to see my brother in North Carolina.  They took us to the Cary Asian Lantern Festival.  It was gorgeous.  We currently live in Farmington.  I am a proud mom of two active young men.  Evan (on the left) is a sophomore at Farmington High School.  He plays football and just turned 17.  Benjamin is a freshman at Michigan State University seeking a Mechanical Engineering degree.  Do not worry if you are not a MSU fan, I am married to an Ohio State guy and daughter to a U of M fanatic.  My husband has just retired from teaching to dedicate his time to a career in the field of manufacturing.  He works at LIFT Detroit as the manager of Stem and Talent Development.

My education background includes a Bachelor degree from Central Michigan with a focus in Elementary and Special Education.  I continued my education at Wayne State University with a focus in Early Childhood Special Education.   As a lifelong learner I pursued an administration endorsement through the state of Michigan.

A fun fact is that I was a student teacher at Wing Lake Developmental Center.  I was so inspired I accepted my first teaching position with the adult SXI classroom.  An interest in working with preschool children led me to another district. After exploring the field of early education, I felt the need to return to my roots in special education.

I am looking forward to collaborating with all of you and building a vibrant community around our students. Don’t ever hesitate to reach out to me.  Give me a call or an email at ssimms@bloomfield.org

Together, we can make a positive impact and ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Warm regards,

Susan Simms M.A. Ed. IMH-E
