Education and Support Services
Oakland Schools is a regional service agency that offers support services to school personnel that are best delivered regionally and provide cost, size and quality advantages to those we serve. Oakland Schools is an autonomous, tax-supported public school district governed by Michigan General School Laws and is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISDs) established in Michigan in 1962.

Penrickton Center for the Blind: Active Learning
This website provides ongoing educational information and tools for implementing active learning techniques in the home, school or daycare environment. All children learn through activity. Active Learning helps to promote independence in children with multiple special needs. This website includes detailed explanation of equipment, overall theory concepts, helpful hints, assessment tools and conference information.
The Arc of Oakland County advocates for the rights and full participation of all children and adults with intellectual and other related developmental disabilities. They strive to improve systems of supports and services; connect families; inspire our community and influence public policy.
Community Living Services (CLS)
CLS has been providing supports and services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for decades. CLS Supports Coordinators are on the front lines every day, accessing resources in communities, helping find employment and volunteer opportunities and working toward a future of independence and freedom for those that they serve.
Macomb Oakland Regional Center (MORC)
The Macomb-Oakland Regional Center Inc. (MORC) is the premier resource for providing services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities in southeast Michigan.
JARC is known as a prototype for innovative, high-quality community-based residential and support programs, serving nearly 200 adults in its group homes and various supported independent living arrangements.
Oakland University Center for Autism (OUCARES) integrates academic course work, knowledge and research with hands-on work in the community to prepare professionals to be leaders in the autism community. Through these academic and service programs, Oakland University also provides supportive individual and family programs.
Angels’ Place provides people-centered services, including homes and professional support, for adults with developmental disabilities. Our homes offer a Christian family environment of love and compassion, coupled with an atmosphere of acceptance, dignity, well-being and the potential for personal growth and acceptance.
On My Own of Michigan serves adults with mild developmental intellectual disabilities including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, and Learning Disabilities.
Lekotek/Oakland Family Services
The Lekotek program uses interactive play experiences, and the learning that results, to promote the inclusion of children with special needs into family and community life.
Health Related
Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority leads a provider service network that assists more than 27,000 Oakland County citizens. People who receive public mental health services through the OCCMHA provider network include those who have a intellectual/developmental disability, adults with a mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbance, and persons with substance use disorders. OCCMHA exists to ensure that all of these individuals are made aware of and have accessibility to services and supports that will improve their health and quality of life, as well as ensure their engagement in full community participation.
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services
Assistance programs, adult and children services, safety and injury prevention. MDHHS offers a number of programs to help you and your family with temporary assistance when times are tough.
Oakland County Health Division
The Health Division’s 30+ programs/services focus on preventing the spread of disease; ensuring a safe and clean environment; promoting and encouraging healthy behaviors; preparing for emergencies; surveillance of disease threats; and ensuring accessibility of health services. The Health Division identifies real public health issues affecting the community and addresses needs with cost effective services. OCHD programs benefit every Oakland County resident, as well as countless visitors.
Children with Special Needs Fund
The Children with Special Needs Fund provides support for children in Michigan with special health care needs not available through any other funding source. The Fund helps with the purchase of equipment and services that promote optimal health, mobility, and development, enhancing the lives of children and their families.

Children’s Hospital Dental Department
The Dental Department at Children's Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center includes specialists on staff in pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and endodontics. For decades the department has been focused on providing services to medically and psychologically handicapped children, including those with oral clefts and facial anomalies, medical disorders and mental impairments. Routine clinical care is offered, as is care under sedation and general anesthesia.

Leisure and Recreation
Friendship Circle provides assistance and support to 3,000 individuals with special needs and their families by providing recreational, social, educational and vocational programming. In addition to helping those in need, the Friendship Circle enriches its vast network of volunteers by enabling them to reap the rewards of selfless giving. Friendship Circle also provides support to individuals and families struggling with isolation, addiction and other family-related crises.
Oakland County Michigan Parks: Adaptive Recreation
Oakland County Parks provides leisure and sports opportunities. Inclusion services are offered so individuals with disabilities can participate in any program or event hosted by Oakland County Parks. A certifies recreation specialist coordinates programs and assists individuals during programs.
Southfield Parks and Recreation
Beech Woods Recreation Center offers several fun and exciting sporting opportunities for people with disabilities. Adaptive programs include wheelchair basketball, golf and tennis.

MAS is a chapter of Disabled Sports USA, a non-profit, tax-exempt educational organization established for the purpose of providing sports, recreation and physical fitness opportunities for persons with disabilities. We offer a competitive aspect as a part of our program for those seeking a higher challenge. We host many annual clinics and events which provide ample challenges and opportunities for fun and excitement. We are able to provide these sports and activities to a very wide range of people. Our participants are of all ages, from young children to adults, and their disabilities include amputation, paralysis, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, developmental disabilities, head injuries, and many others.
Every player fields/hits and gets on base every inning and there are no outs. Kids love this Fun, Self Esteem Building league. Players must be at least 4 years old to participate and no baseball experience required. “Able-bodied” Buddies or family members are partnered with each player to assist and protect them during games. Adaptive plastic bats and safety balls are used and no score is kept.
Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s SportsAbility program provides competitive and recreational sporting opportunities for persons with disabilities. SportsAbility members have an opportunity to participate in a number of activities including:

RIM’s Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialists (CTRS) assist with the formation of teams, clinics, training, and equipment adaptations.
Where joy and creativity abound, in an atmosphere of hope, growth and encouragement. Uniquely designed for people who are living with disabilities and other challenges.
The Art Experience is a place for people with developmental disabilities,
autism or even the “label free” to feel like they’re part of a community. It’s
also an affordable place to paint, draw, CREATE.
Classes and programs offered at both locations throughout the year. Children with special needs participate in the MY BUDDY AND ME program. Gymnastics, swimming, art, and more.
Youth Abilities baseball program for special need students and a BUDDY
Youth Abilities- Saturday sports special for children with physical disabilities. Activities include parachute games. Sessions run Saturday mornings.
The mission of Special Olympics Michigan is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Life skills Center has multiple locations. LSC’s goal is provide programs, services and activities to consumers which will assist them in obtaining independence, employability, and integration into the community. They offer programs and services which foremost promote consumer choice, provide opportunities to enrich consumer lives, promote independence, and community integration.
Dutton Farm is a Life skills and pre-vocational program located on a working farm. Dutton farm strives to positively impact the lives of our participants through partnership, dignity and contentment
Mary's Children Family Center provides a structured program for adults with brain injuries who are beyond the stage of recovery where intense rehabilitation is necessary. Our program is structured and strives to improve functional independence and enhance the quality of life for persons who are overcoming brain injuries and now living in the community.
New Horizons empowers individuals with special needs to fulfill their dreams. Through partnerships, community education, and advocacy, they create a brighter future in which our clients are accepted by, participate in, and add value to the community.
